Genesis

The Genesis quilt was completed during the summer of 2020 - a record breaking year for wildfires in California. Five of of the wildfires from 2020 made it on the top 10 largest fires in California history, burning millions of acres and destroying thousands of structures. On many summer days smoke filled the air, ash rained down, and the red glow of the flames could be seen reflected in the smoke clouded sky. In creating the Genesis quilt I was also transitioning out of my graduate program, had just moved to a new state, started a new job, and was experiencing the effects of wildfires for the first time. In many ways, working on this quilt was meditative time for me to process.

The Genesis quilt design radiates from a central origin representing new beginnings. New beginnings for life, the scorched land, and learning new skills.
