Charmpack Superstar

The quilt where I fell in love with goldenrod yellow and burnt orange. Who knew a background so scrappy and vibrant could be just what I needed at the turn of the 2025 Election year. Using 4” precuts I was gifted and pulling ALL the yellow and orange bits I could find in my stash, I made four scrappy sawtooth stars following the free Charmpack superstar pattern by Julie Hirt. I finished these blocks in a weekend, distracting myself from spiraling down a rabbit hole of political crazies.

The border and cornerstones came later as I contemplated a frame for this ray of sunshine - I had just enough of two contrasting Rifle Paper Co. basics I purchased secondhand to piece a striped border (it was meant to be). Finally, I pieced a scrappy quilt backing with a couple coordinating orphan blocks (orphan’s no more!) and quilting a simple diagonal grid for the background while using a star-like walking foot pattern from Jacquie Gering’s WALK book.

I did not plan to make this quilt, nor did I need to buy anything new - it continuously surprises me with it’s bright and cheerful vibes.
